School Programmes

At Canterbury Diving, we love introducing young New Zealanders to the water in a way that’s safe, fun, and confidence-building.

In-School Diving Experience + Deep Water Confidence Certificates

(Designed for Primary School students – Years 4–6)

This programme is completely FREE for all tamariki.

Our Primary Schools Programme combines two exciting experiences that work hand in hand, an in-school diving introduction and a follow-up Free Water Confidence Certificate session at the pool.

We bring the world of diving directly to your school gym or hall with a fun, interactive PE-style session led by Olympian Monique Gladding.

Students learn about body control, balance, and movement through diving-inspired activities, all while discovering a sport they may never have tried before.

Following the school visit, students are invited to visit the pool for a Deep Water Confidence Session, where students build their comfort and skills in deep water.

Each participant who completes the session earns their Deep Water Passport Certificate, recognising their progress, confidence, and courage in the water.

Together, these sessions promote physical literacy, water safety, and self-belief, giving tamariki the tools to move safely and confidently in, on, and around water.

Students who show enthusiasm or potential can also choose to continue their journey through Canterbury Diving’s competitive pathway, where they can keep developing their skills and confidence at the next level.

If you’d like Canterbury Diving to visit your school, please get in touch, we’d love to share this experience with your students!

JumpSmart Programme

(Targeted at for Secondary School students – Year 9)

Our JumpSmart Programme combines water safety and confidence-building with the thrill of learning to jump, flip, and pop a manu safely — helping Year 9 students develop skills for life in and around the water.

Safety, Confidence, Manus, Flips!

Developed by Diving New Zealand, the JumpSmart Programme empowers Kiwis to enjoy jumping, flipping, and manus safely and with confidence.

Our mission is to keep New Zealanders safer while fostering enjoyment, adventure, and lifelong water skills.

Participants learn to assess safe environments, understand risk, and master controlled take-offs and landings from diving boards, rocks, and wharves.

The programme teaches the LEAP framework:

  • Look – Assess the environment and identify hazards
  • Evaluate – Check depth, currents, and landing areas
  • Ask – Seek advice from those familiar with the spot
  • Pop – Pop a manu!

By learning in a controlled, deep-water setting with experienced diving coaches, participants gain the skills and awareness to enjoy New Zealand’s favourite pastimes more safely.

The JumpSmart Programme is delivered in schools and community settings nationwide, reaching thousands of rangatahi each year.
